  • Introduction

This document is introducing the Research and Development (R&D) Unit of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. It presents in part, the Research & Development Policy and Guidelines for both research activities and developmental foresight that spell out the acceptable approach in the conduct of cutting-edge research and growth oriented programmes of the Church and a pragmatic approach to manpower development which is highly utilitarian for the Church.

  • Aim

The aim of the Research and Development (R&D) Unit of the RCCG is to ensure quality research and developmental programmes in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, being a pace-setting Pentecostal Christian organisation in line with her vision and mission statement. This pamphlet highlights and exposes all the stakeholders in the RCCG to the thinking of our father in the Lord, the General Overseer, the importance of Research and utilitarian training programmes for the purpose of manpower development and overall growth of the Church without losing the Mission’s Pentecostal orthodox sentiments within the framework of the Bible.

  • Objectives

The following are the objectives of this Unit:

i. To establish the tenets of the Redeemed Christian Church of God as a Pentecostal Christian organisation in the face of modern and post-modern theologies.

ii. To strengthen the curiosity of genuine enquirers of the reason of our faith in Christ Jesus among the old and up-coming Churchmen and women.

iii. To facilitate continuous research capacity building among minister of the Gospel within and without the RCCG.

iv. To make available the research outcomes for the benefit of the RCCG in particular and the Christian Churches around the world in general.

v. To develop strong linkages and collaboration with appropriate academic departments and units already at the disposal of the Mission such as the Redeemer’s University (RUN), the Redeemed Christian Bible College (RCBC), the Redeemed Christian School of Missions (RECSOM), Redeemer’s International Leadership Academy (RILA) etc.

  • Scope

1. The activities of the Unit shall be in collaboration with all the existing academic units of the RCCG and all beneficiaries of the resources of the RCCG Research Centre.

2. The proprietors of this Research and Development Unit, i.e. the RCCG shall see to it that research activities are in line with her vision and mission statements and also take care of emerging Christian theological dynamics.

  • Duties and Responsibilities of Research and Development (R&D) Unit

The main functions of the R&D Unit are as follows:

1. Promoting and facilitating research in areas related to the Vision and Mission Statement of the RCCG.

2. Making recommendations, based on findings, to the General Overseer through the office of the AGO (Admin & Personnel) on areas of improvement and further developments, especially with respect to manpower development, missionary activities and Church Growth.

3. Where applicable, developing mutually beneficial linkages with professional associations and (academic) industries in order to develop partnerships and collaborative research

4. Transferring knowledge to ministers and members alike through outreaches (e.g. collaborative research; seminars; workshops; lectures; publications), subject to approval from the General Overseer, through the office of the AGO (Admin & Personnel)

5. Developing strong linkages with appropriate academic departments and units already at the disposal of the Mission such as the Redeemer’s University (RUN), the Redeemed Christian Bible College (RCBC), the Redeemed Christian School of Missions (RECSOM), Redeemer’s International Leadership Academy (RILA) etc.

6. Conducting research and disseminating research results in an honest and ethical manner, and contributing to the wider body of knowledge.

7. Exercising and developing increased capacity for independent, honest and critical thought of ministers and researchers alike throughout their careers.

8. Developing the skills of knowledge transfer and exploration, and use them in policy making and the commercialisation of research for the benefit of the Mission as well as the wider society and economy as a whole.

9. Bridging the gap between the policy and research activities for profitable conformity with the vision and mission statement of the proprietor, that is, the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

  • Building Research Interest Among the Stakeholders of the Church

1. The Redeemed Christian Church of God shall continuously build research capacity among the professional stakeholders of the Church through training in research methodology, ethical practice and research management through the instrumentality of Research and Development Unit of RCCG.

2. The Research and Development Unit of the RCCG shall be responsible for high quality research by encouraging the existing academic units of the Church to foster high ethical standard in research activities relevant to the vision and mission statements of the proprietors, that is, RCCG.

3. The RCCG shall promote multidisciplinary, trans-disciplinary and international collaborative research aimed at knowledge, skill and technology exchanges and transfer as obtained in world-class research centres through the instrumentality of the Research and Development Unit.

4. The RCCG shall ensure that resources for quality and relevant research for Church Growth and manpower development are available and adequate at all times within the priority list of the Church.

  • Actors in the Implementation of the Research Policy and Outcomes

1. Existing academic departments and units already at the disposal of the Mission (RUN, RCBC, RECSOM, RILA, RCCGNA Seminary, CRC, etc.)

2. The Admin/Personnel of the RCCG, International Headquarters in Lagos

3. The Mission Board of the RCCG

4. All the Regions of the RCCG (home and abroad)

5. All Departments of the RCCG where applicable to them
